Whaling Museum offers half-price admission to New Bedford residents

Lower prices, safety measures, engaging exhibits are good reasons to visit
NEW BEDFORD, Mass. — At a time when many local individuals and families are facing financial challenges, the New Bedford Whaling Museum is stepping up to offer half off the price of admission through the end of 2020 to people who live in New Bedford, Massachusetts. New Bedford residents who show proof of residency at the Museum’s reception desk will receive the 50 percent discount. The Whaling Museum is located at 18 Johnny Cake Hill, in New Bedford Massachusetts and is open Wednesday through Sunday, 10:00 a.m.to 4:00 p.m. Information about the Museum and The White Whale is available at www.whalingmuseum.org or by calling (501) 997-0046.
Amanda McMullen, New Bedford Whaling Museum President, commented, “We want to make it easier for people to visit the Whaling Museum, and offering a break on admission is one way to do that. There are plenty of great reasons to visit the Museum right now. Families who are struggling with distance learning can find amazing art, science, history, and culture exhibits here to help with learning. Everyone needs a break from screens, and time to relax in a safe, quiet environment where they can enjoy new and familiar exhibits.”
Thousands of people have visited the Whaling Museum since it reopened in July. The Museum has taken a number of significant steps to help keep visitors and staff members safe during the Covid-19 pandemic including installing UVC air purification systems, which reduce the spread of viruses and bacteria. Around-the-clock cleaning and disinfecting routines are in place, and structural changes to the Museum’s entrance and exit reduce congestion at those high-traffic points. Timed-entry tickets help staff limit the number of people in the building at any given time, so there is ample space for social distancing. According to a report from the Texas Medical Association COVID-19 Task Force and Committee on Infectious Diseases, visiting a museum is safer than going to the beach or a shopping mall or playing basketball.
