New Bedford Whaling Museum supports local teachers and frontline workers

Membership match for teachers extended through June

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. – Following closely in the wake of its popular campaign to benefit Southcoast Health through the sales of “Be Like A Blue Whale” t-shirts and sweaters, the New Bedford Whaling Museum is supporting New Bedford Public School teachers. For every Whaling Museum membership renewed or purchased anew through the end of June 2020, the Museum is giving a teacher in New Bedford a free family membership. Amanda McMullen, President and CEO said, “Our mission is to inspire learning through art, history, science, and culture. We share this aspiration with our close partners at New Bedford Public Schools, who have been working tirelessly during the COVID crisis to ensure that students are staying engaged and inspired. We wanted to show our appreciation for those efforts, as we have done for the important work of healthcare front liners, who have cared for our community during these uncertain times.”

Half of proceeds from sales of “Be Like a Blue Whale” t-shirts and sweatshirts for adults and youth benefit Southcoast Health. The shirts say “This is a blue whale. Blue whales don’t hang out in groups. They are social from a distance. Be like a blue whale.” Details are available at www.whalingmuseum.org.
