The Underwater Carnival
Thursday, July 13th | 4:00pm - 6:00pm
Integrating marine science, animation and original music, The Underwater Carnival provides a fun, immersive experience for families to explore and compare whale species' behaviors and characteristics. Visitors first predict which whale species will exhibit a specific characteristic such as fastest swimmer, deepest dive, or breaching frequency. Then, they watch and listen to a short, animated, musical video simulation which compares two selected species of whales. A small ocean-themed prize is awarded for accurate predictions on two simulations. This activity will be located under the large tent across from the museum’s front entrance.
The Underwater Carnival is co-presented with the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra. It was funded by The LJ STEAM Foundation, the Kiwanis Club of La Jolla, and Sound Explorations.
Also under the tent, you'll find the Whaling Museum's "Salt", a 43-ft inflatable humpback whale - that you can enter and see from the inside! Other fun and educational activities will be available.
The Underwater Carnival is part of the “Under the Sea: Seaweed & Sea Creatures” weekend events, happening July 13 – July 16 at the New Bedford Whaling Museum.
The Underwater Carnival is free to attend, but advance registration is kindly requested.
