Seaweed Pressing Workshop

Friday, July 14, 2023 | 11:00AM & 1:00PM

Get in touch with the marine environment at this workshop making Marine Botanical Seaweed Pressings! Sign up to learn about the history of seaweed pressings from the Victorian Era and other interesting facts about marine algae!

We will use local seaweed specimens collected from spots along the MA & RI coasts, and seaweed collage artist Mary Chatowsky Jameson will demonstrate techniques in arranging the seaweed decoratively on paper. Each participant will make a pressing that can be framed and hung in your home.

Mary Chatowsky Jameson is the artist/owner of Saltwater Studio, located in Newport, Rhode Island. Her Marine Botanicals are created using seaweed and organic materials sourced from North Atlantic coastal waters. She received her BFA in Graphic Design and Illustration from the University of Miami and has certificates in Museum Studies from Tufts University and Appraisal Studies in Art & Antiques from RISD/ American Society of Appraisers. Her work is included in the Whaling Museum’s current seaweed exhibition. Learn more at Saltwater Studio.
