Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to reserve a timed-entry ticket online?
Yes. All visitors on August 8 will need to reserve an entry time through our online portal. We highly recommend that you reserve this free ticket prior to arriving at the Museum since we anticipate selling out of popular entry times.

What is your policy on backpacks and oversized bags?
Oversized bags and backpacks are not permitted in the Museum. While we will have a bag check area in the lobby, we highly recommend that you leave these items at home.

Can I bring food and drink with me to the Museum?
Food and drink can't be carried throughout the Museum. You can either leave them with your checked bag or dispose of them prior to entering the Museum. There are dozens of great restaurants in downtown New Bedford to enjoy before or after your visit. Destination New Bedford has a great list of available restaurants.

What is the Museum's mask policy?
The New Bedford Whaling Museum is following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s guidance regarding mask wearing as it relates to community transmission levels. Based on CDC data for Bristol County, we are currently encouraging masks for visitors and staff. However, please be advise that this is subject to change based on community transmission levels.

Will it be busy?
We anticipate that August 8th will be a very busy - but fun - day at the New Bedford Whaling Museum! Please remember to respect people’s need for space and know that you may have to wait patiently to explore busier areas of the Museum.
