An Apprenticeship Program Exhibition
James E. Reed (1864-1939) was a prominent African American photographer in New Bedford. Having done photography for 34 years, Reed took photos of New Bedford and its citizens.
Modernizing Reed and reviving his legacy, the New Bedford Whaling Museum High School Apprentices mimicked Reed’s photography style by taking pictures where Reed once did, using various technologies to visualize how photography has changed and took pictures of people the apprentices found to be influential.
