ABOUT THE BAND
Jesús Andujar, born in the Dominican Republic, developed his extraordinary sense of rhythm and percussion while working on farms, where he honed his timing, tempo, and ear for music through everyday work with percussive tools. His natural talent led him to perform with bands across the Dominican Republic, where he became recognized as a master percussionist.
Jesús later moved to New York City to study at the prestigious New York Collective Drumming School, learning from renowned artists including Bobby Sanabria, Ricky Sebastian, and Mike Clark. He then relocated to Puerto Rico, performing with celebrated groups such as Grupo Wao, Bonny Cepeda, and other prominent Island ensembles, where he developed his signature style blending Afro-Caribbean rhythms with jazz sensibilities.
Jesús y Su Grupo Sazón is a vibrant ensemble of seasoned musicians, each bringing years of experience in Latin Jazz, Salsa, and Afro-Caribbean music. Together, they create a rich, layered sound that captures the spirit and energy of Latin dance music while showcasing the improvisation and sophistication of jazz. The band not only delivers electrifying performances but also connects with audiences through the depth and intricacy of Latin rhythm, making each show an immersive musical experience.
