Join us for a compelling, film-centered experience anchored by Blue Carbon, a visually stunning and deeply hopeful documentary that brings together music, science, and frontline voices in the fight against climate change—alongside a full day of engaging museum programs.
Told through the perspective of Grammy-nominated music producer, DJ, and marine biologist Jayda Guy, Blue Carbon explores the vital role coastal ecosystems play in absorbing carbon and protecting our planet. Featuring an original score by RZA of the Wu-Tang Clan and appearances by Seu Jorge, the film bridges unexpected worlds—electronic music and marine science—to inspire new ways of listening: to nature, to communities, and to each other.
Filmed across the United States, Senegal, Vietnam, France, Colombia, and Brazil, the documentary reveals the immense potential of “blue carbon” ecosystems—mangroves, seagrasses, and salt marshes—to capture carbon at rates that rival or exceed tropical rainforests. Alongside breathtaking encounters with manatees, humpback whales, and American crocodiles, the film highlights the communities working to protect these environments and underscores the urgency—and opportunity—of climate action.
As director Nicolas Brown explains, the film brings together “opposites—dance music and nature, clubbing and conservation”—to reach new audiences and elevate voices on the front lines of the climate and biodiversity crisis.
Jayda Guy reflects: “Blue Carbon is so important but people know so little about it. I want it to be as well known as the Amazon rainforest. It has such potential to help us combat climate change… I hope that when people watch this film they feel more connected with nature—and more hopeful about our future.”
