Photograph by Peter Pereira

When Peter Pereira decided to leave his computer engineering background almost 20 years ago to pursue his dream of documentary photography, it was always with the hope that his photographs would help people see the world in a new light. Pereira discussed his journey as a photojournalist and talked about the back stories of the photos on exhibit at the Museum and the Standard-Times building.

Photojournalism is a visual record of our time. Through his travels around the world, Pereira has been witness to the best that humanity has to offer, as well as some of the most difficult situations to see. His work is a pictorial compilation of events that shape the world we live in, in a format that needs no translation.
