Virtual attendees joined artist Alison Wells and Whaling Museum Curator of Social History Akeia de Barros Gomes for a discussion of Alison’s artistic journey; as an artist, art educator, and gallery owner.

Alison explained how she weaves references to New Bedford’s rich layers of history, heritage, arts, culture, and industries into her vibrant, large-scale paintings, and combines these influences with her Caribbean culture and sensibilities to convey the essence of the city she loves. This virtual talk was presented as part of Massachusetts Art Week. Alison’s exhibition at the New Bedford Whaling Museum, “In the Neighborhood,” opened on August 6, 2020.
