Presented by The Pedro Pires Institute for Cape Verdean Studies at Bridgewater State University in collaboration with the New Bedford Whaling Museum and the Cape Verdean Recognition Committee.
The documentary explores the various genres of Cape Verdean music in the words of the artists, composers, musicians and other professionals of the music industry in Cape Verde. Some of the featured artists and composers include, Cesaria Evora, Manuel D’Novas, Ildo Lobo, Tito Paris, Ceuzany Pires, Jennifer Soledad, Hernani Almeida and many others. The documentary opens up the world of Cape Verdean music through an examination of the historical context and nuances of Batuku, Funana, Morna, Koladera and also delves into newer transnational influences of hip hop music.
The documentary is subtitled in English and provides a great platform for discussion.
