The New Bedford Whaling Museum is collecting stories from the people of Greater New Bedford for Common Ground: A Community Mosaic and partnered with the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra to bring you Common Ground: A Musical Mosaic Edition. During this live online event, attendees experienced a rich musical tapestry of different cultures and histories from around the world. This musical journey whisked guests away to Portugal, Ireland, Italy, Poland, Israel, and China, tracing the many paths immigrants from around the world have taken to arrive in New Bedford. A solo violin piece based on a Chinese folk melody and written by local Chinese-American composer Dr. Jing Wang was one highlight of the evening. Dance legend Kevin Doyle joined the musicians, adding his lively step-dancing and clogging to Irish jigs, hornpipes, waltzes, and reels.
