Receiving the 2020 Jackson Wild Award, Entangled is a new, feature-length film showcasing how climate change has accelerated a collision between one of the world’s most endangered species, North America’s most valuable fishery, and a federal agency mandated to protect both.

Chronicling the efforts to protect North Atlantic right whales from extinction, Entangled shows the impacts of those efforts on the lobster industry, and how the National Marine Fisheries Service has struggled to balance the vying interests. There are now believed to be fewer than 400 right whales, making them among the planet’s most endangered species. With several direct threats and proposed federal regulations, the future of the iconic species hangs in the balance.

Attendees were able to watch Entangled virtually (through a secure Vimeo link) and join in during a Q&A with the director after the film.

Directed by David Abel, a Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter at The Boston Globe, producer of the award-winning documentary “Lobster War” and acclaimed Discovery Channel documentary “Sacred Cod.”
