Party for the Ocean: Winds and Waves Edition
Wednesday, July 31, 2019
10 am – 3 pm
Jacobs Family Gallery
FREE and open to the public
Attendees explored wind, waves, whales, and ocean health at Party for the Ocean, one of three free family events for Wind and Waves Wednesdays at the Whaling Museum in the summer of 2019. There were opportunities to learn how to harness the power of wind and waves, investigate how marine animals adapt to windy, wavy habitats, and meet people who are working to protect marine and coastal environments. Taking inspiration from the exhibition De Wind is Op! Climate, Culture and Innovation in Dutch Maritime Painting, visitors could create their own works of art. The Whale Guitar, a one-of-a-kind, hand-made electric guitar in the shape of a sperm whale, made an appearance as well.
Party for the Ocean was presented in partnership with Buttonwood Park Zoo, Buzzards Bay Coalition, Lloyd Center for the Environment, National Marine Life Center, and The Whale Guitar Project.
Groups of 10 or more were asked to give advance notice by emailing education@whalingmuseum.org.
Supported in part by a grant from the New Bedford Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.
