Hey Kiddos! Time to get those hands muddy and break out your artistry at a fun, no-experience-needed clay workshop just for kids!

Form and build a beautiful clay coral, inspired by the New Bedford Whaling Museum’s latest exhibition, "Turn the Tide: Courtney Mattison." See the exhibition and then learn about coral reef ecosystems, different coral lifeforms, the importance of protecting the coral reefs, all while you create a coral clay masterpiece to take home! Courtney Mattison, the artist behind the inspiring exhibition will provide the art materials needed and expert instruction. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Limited space available.

The Workshop
Courtney Mattison will demonstrate and share techniques for building beautiful clay corals. Participants will have the chance to form different types of corals such as massive coral, branching coral, and foliose coral. Using printed images of a variety of coral to inspire, she will lead you to experiment with different textures and forms. Creating art can engender a deeper sense of connection and caring for protecting these vital ecosystems and bring you closer to the intricacy and fragility of the organisms growing from the ocean floor.
