What:
New Bedford Whaling Museum, Cabo Verde Ministry of Culture, City of New Bedford will announce a major long-term cultural partnership linking New Bedford and Cabo Verde. Details on a permanent exhibition on whales and whaling in São Nicolau and São Vicente will be presented.  Planning for this joint partnership commenced with the signing of an official Protocol between the Cabo Verdean Ministry of Culture, New Bedford Whaling Museum and the City of New Bedford during the visit of the Charles W. Morgan in June 2014. Representatives from the Museum visited Cabo Verde in 2015 to explore venues and logistics. The special relationship between New Bedford and Cabo Verde dates back to the 1800s when the whaling city became the main port of entry for many Cabo Verdean immigrant whalers and their families. Leveraging the Whaling Museum’s vast collection and resources, this important story can now be shared in Cabo Verde.
