Liverool Transfer-Printed Creamware Pitcher

Liverpool Transfer-Printed Creamware Pitcher, 1810, earthenware. New Bedford Whaling Museum 1996.66.11, Gift of John C. McKee

This exhibition,  as a complement to the Of Earth and Sea contemporary ceramics show, highlighted favorite pieces from the Museum’s ceramics collection. The word “vessel” is interpreted with a double meaning, referring both to the containers themselves and to ships that plied the seas in whaling, trade, and war. The show included works representing various techniques and ranging from the functional to spiritual to the fine and decorative arts.
