NEW BEDFORD, MA (October 23, 2008) – The New Bedford Whaling Museum has been named Best History Museum in the "Official Best of Massachusetts 2008" list. A television program featuring the "Official Best of" list will be aired this Sunday, October 26, 2008 at 1 p.m. on Channel 4 CBS.
The "Official Best of Massachusetts" list includes recommendations on family attractions, zoos, restaurants and more, including museums. A brief virtual tour of the New Bedford Whaling Museum is featured in a segment in which Museum staff members, Science Programs Manager Robert Rocha and Maritime Curator Michael Dyer, explain highlights of exhibits and special programs that the Museum offers year round to families, groups and individuals. They note the Museum's vast collections explore the multitude of connections between the past history of the whaling industry and its impacts on culture, business and everyday life, and today's efforts to preserve, protect and study the great whales and their relationship with humans.
