New Bedford Whaling Museum Plans Special Open House For Teachers

NEW BEDFORD, MA (4.1.08) - - On Monday, April 21, 2008, the New Bedford Whaling Museum is opening its doors to educators and inviting them to discover how the Museum's educational resources can provide a valuable supplement to their classroom lessons.

The ECHO Teacher Open House will provide free admission to the Whaling Museum for teachers with school ID cards and their immediate families on Monday, April 21st. Teachers will have the opportunity to visit the Museum's exhibitions and receive descriptions of Museum school programs that extend the classroom experience. The Open House is supported by Education through Cultural and Historical Organizations (ECHO), a program of the U.S. Department of Education.

"The Museum's Education Department is pleased to set aside a day when teachers can explore the unlimited educational potential of the Museum's treasures," said Sarah Parks, ECHO Program Assistant, New Bedford Whaling Museum. "We hope that the teachers will bring the richness of the Whaling Museum experience back to their students and inspire them to become regular visitors. So much of our programming and activities are designed to make learning fun for students of all ages."
