DURING SCHOOL VACATION WEEK

NEW BEDFORD, MA (04.16.09) - - The New Bedford Whaling Museum invites New Bedford
residents to zip into the world-famous Museum at no charge during school vacation
week, from Sunday, April 19, through Sunday, April 26.
Visitors with a New Bedford zip code can experience the world of whales and
whaling for free. You must bring an ID that includes your zip code to receive free
admission. Look for an ad that is running in The Standard-Times on April 19, 20
and 22.
A visit to the Museum is an opportunity to discover a rich profusion of dynamic
exhibits and rare collections of paintings, prints and decorative art; whaling
instruments and gear; and the world's largest collection of scrimshaw. Two new
exhibitions that help tell the story of a daring and dangerous time in maritime
history are now open. The display of a right whale skeleton with fetus and the
Classic Whaling Prints exhibition join Museum favorites that children especially
enjoy such as the Lagoda, a half-scale model of a Yankee whaleship, and the
full-scale model of a ship's forecastle.
The New Bedford Whaling Museum is the world's most comprehensive museum devoted to
the global story of whales and whaling. The cornerstone of the New Bedford Whaling
National Historical Park, the Museum is located in the heart of the city's
historic downtown at 18 Johnny Cake Hill and is open daily, year round. Become
part of the Whaling Museum online community at flickr.com, facebook.com, and blog
at www.whalingmuseumblog.org. For a complete calendar of events, visit
the Museum online at www.whalingmuseum.org.
