Needle/Work Lecture Series And Tea To Be Presented At New Bedford Whaling Museum On April 13th

Sovereign Bank sponsors lecture by Lynne Bassett, "New England Needlework, 1700-1850"

NEW BEDFORD, MA (4.4.08) - - On Sunday, April 13th, history lovers and hobbyists will have an opportunity to learn about 18th and early 19th century needlework, including samplers, quilts, crewel embroidery, and other domestic furnishings and personal items.

Lynne Bassett has curated exhibits at Old Sturbridge Village, the Connecticut Historical Society, the Mark Twain house, and the Wadsworth Atheneum and written extensively on New England-made quilts and bed-coverings. Her lecture will provide a broader context for the objects on display in the New Bedford Whaling Museum's exhibit, Needle/Work – Art, Craft, and Industry in a Port City.

The lecture is free with museum admission and will be presented in the Museum Theater at 2 p.m.. Afternoon tea will be presented after the lecture in the Jacobs Family Gallery from 3-4 p.m.
