Kentucky
has no direct whaling heritage,
but Louisville was the home
of the Irish-born whaleman,
journalist, Irish Republican
agitator, treasury agent,
and California political facilitator
J. Ross Browne (1821-1875),
author of the firsthand narrative
Etchings of a Whaling Cruise
(1846), which influenced Moby-Dick.
He is featured as one of our
"Famous Whalemen: A Baker's
Dozen."
