MSS
notebook compiled by E.C. Williams that appears to
be his manuscript notes preparatory to narrating his
panorama which was variously titled Life in the
South Seas, Grand South Sea Whaling Voyage and
Celebrated Representation of a South Sea Whaling
Voyage that described the history of the whale
fisheries, habits of the whale, perils of the chase
and method of capture. It toured through New York,
Pennsylvania, Ohio, Connecticut, Massachusetts and
Maine between May, 1858 and March, 1866. 25 cm. [250
pp.], Boards detached. Inscribed on front free end
paper "E.C. Williams, Rochester, NY." 2003.74

of 10 prints under the old KWM # PS 182 appear to
be wood engravings photo-transferred to a lithographic
process and are meant to be book illustrations tipped
into the pamphlet by Capt. E.C. Williams entitled
Life in the South Seas: History of the Whale
Fisheries, Habits of the Whale, Perils of the Chase,
and Method of Capture. New York: John F. Trow,

and notes between Charles Foster Batchelder and Francis
B. Lothrop regarding the chronology and dates of the
panorama including newspaper clippings from the cities
and towns where the panorama appeared and biographical
notes from the collection of the Rochester Public
Library in Rochester, New York. Special thanks to
