INTERNSHIP
PROGRAMS continued
Undergraduate
Internships
are generally intended for upper-level candidates for the
bachelors degree in any relevant discipline, whether
or not the potential Intern has a career interest in museum
work, the fine arts, or historic preservation (also open
to recent graduates).
Postgraduate
Internships
are generally intended for graduate students in any relevant
discipline who have a potential career interest in museums,
libraries, and archival institutions, the fine arts, or
historic preservation, and generally imply a higher level
of specialization than Undergraduate Internships (also open
to recent graduates and new professionals).
International

are offered at any level for advanced university-level students,
recent graduates, preprofessionals, and new professionals
from abroadespecially those for whom the equivalent
training or professional work-experience might not otherwise
be available. To qualify, an applicant must have (or be
able to obtain) a valid passport and appropriate visa, must
be fluent in spoken and written English, and must provide
certification of health insurance benefits for the entire
time they are to be in the USA.
Senior
Internships
are offered for advanced students, scholars, and new professionals
who have already demonstrated a significant expertise in
a field or fields relevant to the museums interests
and collections, and for whom an in-residence position would
potentially result in a mutually beneficial collaboration.
Additionally,
a Scholars-in-Residence
program enables qualified scholars and senior museum professionals
from America and abroad to utilize the facilities and resources
of the museum to pursue advanced studies or conduct projects
of potential mutual benefit; and occasional Junior
Internships provide opportunities of shorter
duration for undergraduates and for highly motivated high
school students (especially from inner-city and rural-agricultural
communities) to sample hands-on curatorial work in a museum
environment. L. Byrne Waterman
Internships and L. Byrne
Waterman Fellowships
are special appointments to endowment positions of particular
distinction, and are bestowed by the Institute rather than
selected by application.
