This blanket piece has attached to it the “Hump,” the large prominence of a pyramidal form on the whale’s back. Notice the “hump” is across the lower part of the blanket piece.


BLANKET PIECE
A large slab of blubber, cut from a sperm whale, comes aboard the schooner John R. Manta in 1923. Unseen is the majority of the crew, heaving on the brake-windlass (a large winch) forward.
